Congratulations to the Welbeck Bakehouse for their success at this year's prestigious Great Taste Awards. Two of their signature products were awarded gold stars. The Welbeck Sourdough loaf, withstanding strong competition from other UK producers, was awarded two gold stars and the Bakehouse’s infamous cheese biscuits received one gold star.
The Welbeck Bakehouse is located in the heart of the Welbeck Estate. Their fabulous breads, pastries and biscuits are handcrafted nightly by a team of four skilled artisan bakers and baked in the region's only wood fired ovens. Head baker Matt McCarthy has spent four years perfecting his sourdough which is made using just flour, water and yeast. The combination of these simple ingredients go through a series of fermentations until a 'starter' is created. This starter, refreshed into a new batch of dough every day, can last for years, resulting in a loaf of bread of unparalelled depth of flavour and texture.
