An evening of authentic Italian food at The Harley Café
05 November 2019
A taste of Italy is to arrive at the historic Welbeck estate with the opening of an exclusive pop-up restaurant - for two nights only.
The restaurant’s special evenings have been created by founder of the award-winning Welbeck Farm Shop, Joe Parente, with acclaimed chef, Jake Simpson, who together will be showcasing top-class Italian cuisine against the unique backdrop of The Harley Café in The Courtyard at Welbeck.
With produce from the Welbeck estate and the surrounding area. The wine list has been curated personally by Joe, with an extensive selection of rare and reasonably priced Italian wines to perfectly accompany the food. What’s more, handcrafted real ale from Welbeck Abbey Brewery and a small selection of aperitifs and digestifs will also be available.
The people behind the pop-up restaurant are...
After starting the Farm hop in 2006, Joe moved into the restaurant industry. Part Italian, Joe grew up messing around under the tables of great Campanian restaurants far later than his supposed bedtime should have been. He first worked with Jeremy Lee at Quo Vadis (where he met Jake) and then moved from there to the Clove Club which holds the highest ranking of any UK restaurant in the world’s 50 best.
Jake began his career with Jeremy Lee at the Blueprint Café on the Southbank. Jake moved with Jeremy to help with the re-opening of Quo Vadis, but eventually a passion for Italian food led him to working for Jacob Kenedy at Bocca di Lupo, widely regarded as one of the best Italian restaurants in the country. Jake rose meteorically through the ranks to become the head chef of the restaurant, responsible for all aspects of the business kitchen side. After six years with the restaurant, Jake moved to Italy to further his knowledge of Italian food. Since then he has worked with the event group Arnold and Henderson, whilst tutoring courses on Italian food.
Together Jake and Joe plan to open a restaurant showcasing the food that they love from Italy, using incredible produce from the Welbeck estate and surrounding areas, with a fun and relaxed vibe.
