Online talks: The Portland Collection
14 January 2021
Here's your chance to get an insight into the world of The Portland Collection museum from the comfort of your own home.
A new programme of free lunchtime online talks has been designed following on from the success of last year’s online events. The series begins with Magnifying Miniatures on 26 February. Karen Hearn, former Curator at the Tate, will be talking about her favourite miniature portraits from The Portland Collection and will reveal the stories behind them.
It is hoped that The Harley Gallery will be able to re-open in the spring with a new exhibition The Jerwood Collection: A Curator’s Choice. An online talk - A Curator's Choice - has been organised for 26 March to introduce the art that will form the new exhibition. Director of the Jerwood Collection, Lara Wardle, will talk about looking after the private art collection and share her thoughts about some of her favourite pieces within the show.
A third talk - Desserts for a Duchess - will take place on 30 April. Philippa Glanville, OBE, will be sharing her knowledge about historic silver plate and the history of dining when she talks about The Portland Collection’s silver.
- The 30-minute lunchtime talks are free. Places can be booked over the phone on 01909 501 700. To register interest, email firstname.lastname@example.org and a link will be emailed to you to join the event.
