Opening the archives on a Georgian Christmas at Welbeck

On Friday 17 December at 12noon, Derek Adlam, Curator Emeritus of The Portland Collection, will delight participants with a fascinating online discussion into a Georgian Christmas at Welbeck Abbey.

'The Rich Miss Scott's Christmas Special' lunchtime talk will focus on Henrietta Scott (1774-1844) who married the future 4th Duke of Portland in 1795 and was affectionately known as 'The Rich Miss Scott', she was the eldest of three sisters, her younger siblings were known as 'The Witty Miss Scott' and 'The Pretty Miss Scott'.

For this online discussion, Derek will delve into Welbeck Abbey's curatorial archive and highlight some of the remarkable details of Duchess Henrietta's household accounts from 1813-1834. The Duchess kept extraordinarily detailed notes on the running of her household, and these accounts give us a fascinating insight into life above and below stairs in the stately home.
