Award-winning ales at Welbeck Abbey Brewery

Award-winning ales at Welbeck Abbey Brewery

We are delighted to announce that Welbeck Abbey Brewery's new beers have won not one... not two... but THREE awards at the recent Farm Shop & Deli Show, held at the NEC in Birmingham.

The awards were judged by a panel of industry experts who considered sustainability, ethical brand stories, and provenance.

The three ales that scooped the awards were from their NEW core range that launched in early April, 'Atlas' won a silver award, with 'Skylight' and 'Hennymoor' winning bronze. . Claire Monk, General Manager at the Brewery, said,

"The whole team is thrilled that our three new beers have been deemed award-worthy by a panel of experts. The brewers have worked hard to hone these recipes, so to have their efforts rewarded is fantastic. We are now looking to spread to word about our award-winning beers and hopefully stock many more specialist bottle beer shops in the region".

SILVER - Atlas - West Coast IPA

The Portland Collection has an astonishing compendium of art and books collected by generations of the family at Welbeck. One of the most famous works is the English Atlas from 1680, a beautiful collection of hand-drawn and coloured maps created for King James II.

This American West Coast IPA showcases the best New World hops, bringing piney resinous and clean grapefruit flavours balanced with English malted barley.

BRONZE - Hennymoor - Golden English Ale

Hennymore lane stretches over a farm between the Welbeck Village and the prehistoric Creswell Crags. On 5th August 1944, a Canadian aircrew of 5 perished when their Wellington bomber plane crashed on the edge of Hennymoor Farm, and a memorial now stands at the Crags.

This subtle yet enduring pale ale is created with delicate hops from the south of England to give hints of orange zest and herbal bitterness, carrying lasting caramel sweetness.

BRONZE - Skylight - Continental Pale Ale

The Victorian 5th Duke of Portland was renowned for creating an extensive network of underground passages and rooms beneath the Welbeck estate. Many of these structures were lit through clever use of skylights rather than just lamplight.

Skylight is the palest of the beers, brewed with crisp British-grown lager malt. The continental hops make this a bright and fresh lager-style beer with light floral and grassy tones.
