You’ll find your own slice of tranquillity right here in this private rural historic estate, nestled within Sherwood Forest in north Nottinghamshire. These two impressive stone cottages have been carefully restored to offer a relaxed and cosy retreat, whilst retaining their historic character.

They form part of The Winnings; a row of ornate almshouses which were built by Welbeck Abbey’s 6th Duke of Portland using the proceeds made during a series of horse racing wins. The Dukes racing successes were legendary. He was a very generous man too and The Winnings were built in 1890 specifically for retired estate workers. They commemorated the victories of his most successful racing thoroughbreds – Memoir, Ayrshire, Donovan and Semolina.

The decor of the cottage has been designed by Alison Swan Parente, who has furnished the rooms with pieces from contemporary interiors specialist, PR Home, who are based on the Welbeck estate.

Due to the age of the cottages, unfortunately, the two-storey interiors are not fully accessible for people who have limited mobility. Dogs are not allowed, although exceptions can be made where an assistance dog is needed by a member of your party. Please do let us know at the time of your booking. We regret that cots or high chairs are also not available. Please see our full booking terms and conditions.
