Farming

Our farming practices operate as sustainably and environmentally friendly as we can, preserving and encouraging the habitats necessary for the local wildlife.
Arable Farming
Alex Miles and his team manage 1900 hectares of farmland across the Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire countryside.

The farming team grow a wide range of arable crops for sale on the open market, along with low-mile produce for the Estate - feed and bedding for livestock and the delicious asparagus sold at Welbeck Farm Shop.

Our sustainable farming practices include the following:

Reducing the use of inorganic fertilisers for environmental reasons and lowering emissions from nitrogen fertiliser applications.

Conservation borders are sown with nectar and bird flower mix.

Monitoring and surveying wildlife alongside our farming enterprise ensures the natural environment flourishes.

Home Farm is part of the Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) and Countryside Stewardship Scheme.

Heritage Cattle

In 2021, our herd of belted galloways made our estate their home. The distinctive breed, with striking black and signature white belts, graze on our historic pastures.

Sheep Farming

Our lamb is reared by fifth-generation farmers on a 300-year-old unspoilt pasture known as the wilderness. There, amongst wild yarrow, vetches and nettles, the sheep graze in a lush, pesticide-free environment.

Collingthwaite Farm

Friesian-Holstein Cows happily roam and graze on the historic pastures of the Welbeck Estate.
